Coastal defense in 1942

Cape May MAC says the tower was one of a network of observation posts used to detect vessels and help direct coastal artillery. Its tower history explains the Fort Miles connection and the tower's role in wartime Cape May. It is a compact site, but the exhibits turn a plain concrete structure into a clear local story.

What the visit includes

Interpretive panels line the boardwalk; inside are exhibits, a Wall of Honor and an upper spotting gallery reached by stairs. The ground floor and boardwalk are accessible, while the upper levels have no alternative to the stairs. Cape May MAC offers additional information for guests who cannot climb.

Sunset Boulevard planning

The tower stands on Sunset Boulevard near Sunset Beach in Lower Township, with parking across the road. The last climb is fifteen minutes before closing and lightning or severe weather may stop tower entry. Check Cape May MAC's current tower page for the calendar, admission and accessibility.
